Opening Hymn 436 “Go to Dark Gethsemane”

Pastor: We begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with true hearts, and
confess our sins unto God, our Father, entreating Him in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the
People: Who made heaven and earth.
Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord.
People: And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Pastor: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners
confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we
have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee
for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for
the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.
All: O most merciful God, who has given Your only-begotten Son to
die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission
of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will, and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that, by Your grace, we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Pastor: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and
has given His only Son to die for us and for his sake forgives us all our
sins. To those who believe on His name He gives power to become the
sons of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes
and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all!
People: Amen.
Pastor: The Lord be with you!
People: And with your spirit.
Pastor: Let us pray!
People: Amen.

Epistle Reading: Ephesians 5:1-9 (NKJV)
Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as
Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a
sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. 3 But fornication and
all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as
is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse
jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you
know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an
idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no
one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath
of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not
be partakers with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you
are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of
the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth)

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!

Gospel Reading: John 10:22-30 (NKJV)
22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was
winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then
the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us
in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered
them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My
voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal
life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of
My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all;
and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I
and My Father are one.”

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!

The Sermon………………………. Luke 11:29-32 (NKJV)
29And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to
say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given
to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. 30 For as Jonah became a sign
to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. 31 The
queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this
generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to
hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than
Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment
with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of
Jonah; and indeed, a greater than Jonah is here.
